Why Bears, thou?
Bears have always held a significant place in my heart. I admire their strength, protective nature, fierceness and round physic. They are apex predators that we have tenderized to the status of stuffed companions, used to lull our children to sleep. This dichotomy does not exist with other fierce beasts, but the teddy bear endures. The association of strong and fierce, with the underbelly of soft, protective and loving is one that has stood the test of time.

My affinity for bears goes a bit deeper, as my mother's clan from Ireland is O'Sullivan Beare. I named my son after this association, and have been a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. I am a bear.

I have had the gift of Eva's friendship for the last 10 years. In that time, we have shared the stories and heartbreaks that only best friendships can endure. In all our countless cups of coffee, we had never discussed my fondness for bears. Until she shared that her husband has long used the term as a pet name for her. She is a bear.

You will find on our podcast that anger led me here. I am very comfortable with anger, it is the best way for me to know when I have had enough.
The name for our podcast was originally "Hemorrhaging" because I saw the end of ROE V WADE as a direct attack on women. I felt that all women were hemorrhaging at that time, which is defined as a great loss of blood, and/or assets. Eva - in her infinite wisdom - calmly and rationally re-directed my focus to not be based in loss, but in care. Through many, many iterations we finally landed on Bear Naked because it expresses our power, fierceness and strength, and protective nature with a calling for truth. An aggressive vulnerability that demands attention.
